A brand new LEGO Avengers: Endgame set will be officially unveiled at this year’s forthcoming San Diego Comic Con. Since Star Wars first burst onto theater screens in 1977, merchandise has become a vital part of any action-adventure blockbuster’s revenue and marketing strategy, and this is particularly true of superhero movies. Ever the innovators, LEGO has wisely struck deals with several major movie franchises over the years, turning iconic characters from the big screen into brick form and spawning a whole new series of play sets, video games and, in Batman’s case, a whole new movie.
With Avengers: Endgame doggedly seeking to become the highest grossing movie of all time at the global box office, it’s no surprise that LEGO have been making full use of their Marvel license and the Danish toy company released five Avengers LEGO sets to coincide with the movie’s release. These sets actually revealed some salient details about Avengers: Endgame’s plot, which was otherwise guarded with extreme secrecy. The LEGO sets confirmed the return of the Outriders, despite their presence being hidden in the film’s trailer. However, the initial wave of LEGO Avengers sets also included elements that did not feature in the finished film, such as Captain America’s bike and Iron Man’s Hall of Armors.
As revealed by i09, LEGO have some special releases prepared for next month’s San Diego Comic Con including the brand new Avengers Hulk Helicopter Drop set. Retailing at $60, the 482-piece set comes with minifigures of Hulk, Black Widow, Rescue (with helmet and hair pieces) and two Chitauri soldiers. Also included for constructing pleasure are two Chitauri platforms and an Avengers helicopter which fires out little studs and can drop the Hulk figure into battle. In a neat touch, Hulk also comes complete with an Infinity Gauntlet and a selection of Infinity Stones which can be attached.
Although the presence of Rescue and the Chitauri warriors would suggest that this set is inspired by Avengers: Endgame’s climactic final battle, it’s perhaps more accurate to say that this collection, like previous LEGO releases, takes inspiration from the Avengers franchise as a whole. On one hand, Hulk and Black Widow are wearing their Quantum Realm suits, but on the other, Black Widow died before the final battle. At least fans can now act out what the fight would’ve looked like if Nat had survived until the end.
While there’s also not a helicopter in sight during these scenes, Thanos did pilot a chopper - with his name branded on the tail no less - in the Marvel comics and this image has since attained meme-worthy status. Unfortunately, Thanos does not come as part of the Hulk Helicopter Drop set and, in any case, the vehicle is emblazoned with the Avengers’ logo.
