Marvel’s Avengers will include Viking Thor and Joe Fixit Hulk, which has been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. This shows that character customization will be part of the game and that players will have access to different outfits from the history of Marvel Comics.
Marvel’s Avengers is an upcoming action-adventure game that is set in its own story continuity, where the city of San Francisco is devastated by a helicarrier accident involving a Terrigen Crystal, and Captain America is believed to have been slain in the accident. The game is set five years after superheroes are outlawed, and the world comes under threat once more. The Avengers need to reform in response to the threat, and also to make amends for the past.
The character designs used in Marvel’s Avengers seem to be heavily inspired by the ones used in the MCU. That said, players won’t be forced to use these designs throughout the story or the multiplayer modes, as it has been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that character customization will be a part of the game, and the different outfits used by the characters will include ones from outside the MCU. It has been confirmed that the costumes will include a Viking-themed version of Thor, the suit-clad Joe Fixit version of the Hulk, the Iron Man Model 42 armor, and Captain America’s original scaled suit of armor.
It has previously been announced that Marvel’s Avengers will receive free post-launch characters and content, and skins would seem like a natural fit to be given away after the game has been released. There have only been a handful of skins revealed for the game so far, but there is a lot of potential for character customization options, given the fact that the developers aren’t afraid to use a fairly obscure version of the Hulk as an alternate skin.
Marvel’s Avengers received some criticism regarding its gameplay and the quality of its graphics when the game was shown at E3 2019. Crystal Dynamics quickly responded to the concerns of the fans and promised that the game would be improved based on their feedback. The current word from San Diego Comic-Con is that the graphics have already been improved, especially in regard to character models. Marvel’s Avengers is due to be released on May 15, 2020, which means that there is still plenty of time to include even more content than what the base game is currently offering.
