A new Avengers: Infinity War clip reveals the first meeting between Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the upcoming blockbuster brings together almost all superheroes in the famed franchise as they band together to foil Mad Titan Thanos’ evil plans. Promising to find a “narrative thread” in every MCU movie storyline to date, the film will also set the stage for next year’s still-untitled Avengers 4, which will cap-off the 22-film-narrative that the MCU has been expanding on since 2008’s Iron Man.

It won’t be that much longer before fans know how Infinity War pans out, with the movie set to debut in less than five weeks. Tickets are now available, and they wasted no time in breaking pre-sale records just hours after Marvel started rolling them out. Based on box office tracking, the upcoming flick is set to become the MCU’s highest grossing film in terms of its opening weekend, with estimates of $215 million in sales during its first three days. Fans struggling to endure the wait can feel free to try and tide themselves over with treats like the clip above.
Courtesy of user Candice S. West on Twitter comes a short but fun clip from Infinity War featuring both the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor during their first meeting. Shown at this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards, it’s an extended version of footage exclusively screened at last year’s D-23 Expo, where we first learn how the Guardians of the Galaxy run into the now one-eyed Asgardian. Only this time, we see what happens right after Thor crashed into the Milano’s windshield with everybody trying to examine what they just stumbled on. It’s also what goes down before the shot of Thor asking who Star-Lord and his crew are at the end of the first official trailer from November - which apparently is, Robert Downey Jr.’s favorite scene in the whole movie. The quality of the video isn’t that good, but it’s clear enough to know what’s happening, and hear Drax’s hilarious dialogue.
At this point in the narrative, it’s been a few years since the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the cosmic heroes have nailed their group dynamics, albeit with some bickering still included. They’re on the opposite side of the spectrum than the Avengers who are still divided after Captain America: Civil War. Considering that Infinity War’s biggest draw is seeing all these heroes together for the first time, it makes sense that the Guardians have a good part in the movie. But thematically, they represent how far Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are from the kind of team that they need to be in order to effectively carry their roles as protectors of mankind.
It’s expected that Avengers: Infinity War will take on a more serious tone when compared to its predecessors, given the dire situation it presents for our heroes. But in the few times that we’ve seen the Guardians so far, they serve to offer some comedic relief, particularly Star-Lord, whose ridiculous comments often even baffle Tony Stark. That’s fine considering that it sticks to Peter Quill’s sarcastic nature, but hopefully it’s used in moderation, so as not to undermine the very real danger that Thanos brings with him.
