Bad Boys for Life, the long overdue third entry in the Bad Boys series, has wrapped filming. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are both back to reprise their roles as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively. The original film arrived in theaters back in 1995 and a sequel followed eight years later; and though their critical reception wasn’t the best, both films were major box office successes. Now, 16 years later, the third entry is finally on its way.
Bad Boys for Life was slated to land in theaters in early 2017 but lost its release date after Joe Carnahan, who was looking to write and direct, stepped down from the project. Sony then brought in filmmaking duo Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah to helm the third entry; and though it seemed like a third Bad Boys film would never see the light of day for quite some time, with the project remaining trapped in development hell, it finally found its footing. Alongside Smith and Lawrence, the cast includes Jacob Scipio, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, and Paola Nunez. Now, Lawrence has confirmed that production on Bad Boys for Life has finished.
Recently, Lawrence tweeted out a photo of himself and Smith announcing that Bad Boys for Life had wrapped filming. Production began this past January, and now with the project wrapping, Smith and Lawrence appear to be celebrating the film’s completion as the photo shows the two co-stars resting underneath the shade of umbrellas. Check out Lawrence’s tweet below:
After years of wondering and waiting, the third entry in the action-comedy series is finally going to become a reality. Despite the first film’s mediocre critical reception, it helped launch Smith’s career as a mainstream action star, with films like Independence Day, Men in Black, and Wild Wild West, while also landing him more prestigious roles that earned him two Oscar nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role. After Bad Boys, Lawrence starred in a number of undercover cop comedy films, like Blue Streak and the Big Momma’s House films.
As for Bad Boys for Life, Smith and Lawrence have been teasing fans ever since the film was announced and began production earlier this year. And now that production has wrapped, fans can expect some official marketing for the film to pick up steam, though it’s anyone’s guess when an official trailer will be released. For now, it’s very likely that Smith and Lawrence will keep up with their social media updates for the film, as this isn’t the first time they’ve reached out to fans via Twitter and Instagram.
