The upcoming Bad Boys spinoff TV show called LA’s Finest gets a teaser trailer and a May 2019 premiere date. LA’s Finest will be a spinoff of the popular action movie Bad Boys, which starred Will Smith as Mike Lowrey and Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett. The series will focus on Marcus’ sister Sydney (Gabrielle Union), who is a Drug Enforcement Agent in Los Angeles.
In early 2018, it was announced that a Bad Boys TV spinoff was moving forward at NBC, with Union returning to her role of Sydney Burnett from Bad Boys II. Soon after, the series cast some big name actors including Ernie Hudson as Sydney’s father, as well as Jessica Alba as the co-lead named Nancy McKenna. A few months later, it was revealed that LA’s Finest would not be moving forward at NBC, but later in the year, Charter Communications picked up the series for a 13-episode season. Now, the series looks to have gotten a premiere date.
Posted on the Spectrum Originals YouTube account, LA’s Finest has been announced for a May 13 release date. The premiere date was announced with a brief teaser that shows off the series. The teaser begins by ironically showing Alba and Union in a provocative manner, before Alba says, “This is not our show.” Then the video goes into some of the action that fans will get to watch in just a few months. While the Bad Boys franchise will be making its way to the small screen in May, Smith and Lawrence will be heading back to the big screen in 2020 for Bad Boys for Life. The long-awaited third film in the Bad Boys series will release in January 2020, with Joe Pantoliano returning alongside Smith and Lawrence, as well as Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, and Charles Melton filling out the supporting cast.
Fans were no doubt thrilled that Bad Boys for Life was finally moving forward, but LA’s Finest also has potential as a TV series. Based on the 30-second announcement video, the show already looks to have a ton of action. Some will also enjoy seeing Alba act again, as she has lately been taking less acting roles to focus on her business The Honest Company. Union has been acting a lot more than Alba has lately, but LA’s Finest is one of the more anticipated titles in her filmography for a lot of people. Even if LA’s Finest doesn’t go over well with fans, the series will still bring attention back to the Bad Boys franchise to hopefully help Bad Boys for Life succeed at the box office.
