Although DC Comics and Warner Bros. officially began their shared cinematic universe - called the DC Extended Universe - with Man of Steel in 2013, the DCEU will really kick off with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice later this year. The film is set to introduce Justice League members Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), while additional Justice League members like The Flash and Aquaman are also said to appear, though the details are largely unknown.

Still, Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder has said fans will “understand [Aquaman] exists” and a promotional photo featuring Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) as the King of the Seven Seas was released last year. More recently, action figures of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman and other merchandise further showcased the Atlantean King’s costume. Now, photos and video of the Batman V Superman costumes offer more new insight into Aquaman’s character design in the DCEU.

Frankel’s Costume Company [h/t to ComicBook] revealed the designs as presented by Rubie’s Costume Company in Las Vegas this weekend. The photos show prototype adult costumes from Rubie’s, one of the largest costume manufacturers, of Aquaman, two versions of Batman (one with armor and one without), as well as Wonder Woman. Take a look at the Aquaman costume:

When the image of Snyder and Momoa’s Aquaman was first released, fans didn’t respond well to the muted colors since the Atlantean King usually sports a bright green and orange design in the comics. Shortly after Snyder’s image hit the internet, a fan-made version followed with Aquaman’s trademark green and orange added to his armor and tattooed design.

Now, between all the Batman v Superman Aquaman merchandise - including the action figure, other toys, and this costume based on the hero - it seems the character’s design will feature more color than the early teaser image indicated. Given the merchandise, it seems Aquaman’s pants will be green, while his armor and boots will act as gold accents. Although it’s still less color than the King of the Seven Seas sports in his classic costume, it’s certainly more than many expected when Snyder released the teaser image.

That being said, this costume isn’t necessarily an exact replica of how Momoa will appear as Aquaman in Batman V Superman, or in the hero’s following standalone film. Although the similar design seen between the action figure, toy, and costume offer some confirmation that they’re influenced by Momoa’s character, we won’t know the exact color or the Atlantean King’s costume until he is revealed in Batman v Superman - and we still don’t know in what capacity that will be.
