By now, the battle lines have largely been drawn. The release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice placed audiences firmly into two camps. No, not Batman or Superman, but whether or not the movie was good or bad. Despite the lines drawn between the detractors and the supporters of the film, there have been many questions posed as to what some of the cameos and dream sequences in the film mean, and whether or not they will factor into future films down the line.

One scene in particular left many audiences scratching their heads over its purpose. For that, and for a few other scenes, producers are now urging patience.

The scene in question involves a vision Bruce Wayne has of Ezra Miller’s (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) The Flash. In it, Bruce is astonished to see The Flash warning him of future events from an unstable portal. As it was presented in the movie, the scene could have been a dream or an actual occurrence, but in a recent interview with Collider, producer Deborah Snyder promises it’ll payoff as the shared universe continues:

Whether or not that moment actually pays off in future movies is anyone’s guess, but it does give some hints about the direction of The Justice League, which starts filming in April. Clearly, The Flash will use his super speed to travel back in time, as we’ve seen him do countless times in the comics as well as the current CW show The Flash. So what does this mean?

“As we started then we worked on our script, I think we were in the middle of shooting and we started working on the outline for the next movie and where they go, and Zack said, ‘Oh my God let’s add this moment that is gonna pay off down the road, and we’ll find out more information.’”

Unconfirmed rumors have been swirling as to whether or not the Justice League movies will delve into the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline from the ’80s that has since become one of the most popular and widely known stories from the DC Universe. The story involves multiple timelines on multiple Earths facing a crisis that could end all universes. Given the appearance of what might be one of the New Gods in a recently released cut scene from Dawn of Justice, as well as hints involving Darkseid’s eventual introduction into the world, it does seem likely that Justice League will deal with this story, at least in some fashion.

While the scene in question may have felt out of place, it is interesting to think how far in advance these things have been planned out. Perhaps Snyder is right, and perhaps scenes seen in BVS will come to pay off as the shared universe expands. No matter your feelings on BVS, it certainly did push this shared universe farther along, giving Warner Bros. plenty of ideas to play around with as the DC Extended Universe progresses. There’s sure to be more news on Justice League and the connections that it builds for the shared universe. Screen Rant will keep you posted as they develop.
