In about two months, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters with just about everything the collective DCEU has behind it. DC’s marketing machine is rolling into overdrive, pumping out trailers, teasers, toys, and artwork galore. The thrust of much of their promos pushes the gritty superhero throw down about to take place – although their LEGO toy spot was decidedly cutesy.

Recently, director Zack Snyder even released a television teaser where he encouraged fans to pick sides in the conflict. Putting their might behind #Batman or #Superman allows supporters to weigh in on the impending battle and also (DC is likely hoping) sets their hashtags on fire across social media. But before fans pick a side, they should take a gander at the latest BVS TV spots.

The most recent teasers, released on television and via Twitter today, feature perspectives from both sides of the upcoming battle. The first spot leaps into an irate conversation where Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) tries to convince his boss, Editor-In-Chief Perry White (Laurence Fishburne), that the Daily Planet has to “do the right thing” and take a stand against Batman’s vigilante justice. White shuts him down quickly, saying, “nobody cares about Clark Kent taking on the Batman,” but the editor has no say over the Man of Steel’s actions. Superman then advises Batman not to answer the bat signal, before walking up to the wreckage of the Batmobile, telling the Caped Crusader point blank, “The bat is dead. Bury him.”

The flip side of the BVS coin, released later this evening, starts with Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) discussing his superhero dilemma with Alfred (Jeremy Irons). The kindly butler worries about “going to war” with Superman, to which Wayne responds – in very Batman fashion – “He brought the war to us.” Batman clearly foresees a problem with good ol’ Supes and his incredible powers. By his logic, if there’s even the slightest chance the Kryptonian Übermensch goes bad, millions of lives are at risk. This line of thinking leads the Dark Knight to only one conclusion: “We have to destroy him.”

Although the birth of the fledgling Justice League is the exciting end result of Batman V Superman, DC clearly wants to remind its fans to expect a next-level fight. And what better way to set it up than, in effect, some pre-fight hype. Releasing the #WhoWillWin hashtag campaign perfectly prefaced the two subsequent ads – you can almost imagine Zack Snyder in a sweaty locker room, shoving the mic into Superman’s face before heading over to Batman’s dressing room.

And the battle between the two DC stars really is the main attraction here. Assuming this DCEU-rending fight is as epic as all the hysteria and trailers lead us to believe, the superhero conflict will lead us gleefully by the hand into the Dawn of Justice portion of the title. On the other hand, if Snyder and DC mismanage the bout – which is unlikely but still possible – it’ll be a bumpy ride to the JL payoff.
