With the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in March, we’re getting closer to understanding how Wonder Woman will play into the events of the movie that would lead the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel into forming the Justice League with other superheroes from the DC Extended Universe.

As the weeks go by, we’re also learning more and more about the importance of Wonder Woman to the overall DC Extended Universe. Warner Bros. and DC plan to introduce a few members of the Justice League in Batman V Superman before spinning them off into solo movies, so we’re going to get a taste of Diana Prince in action before she leads her own film in June 2017.

“It was incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story. The whole concept came of, ‘Let’s not save anything. Let’s try it all.’ Then Wonder Woman’s entrance made us realize we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realized we were one movie away.”

It appears that the filmmakers were pretty open about expanding the DCEU and every bit of the comic book universe’s mythology was open to them. But from Snyder’s comments, it feels like Batman V Superman might be more concerned with setting up a larger universe than spending time developing strong characters and interesting storylines. Empire also revealed that Gadot didn’t think her character would play a bigger part in Batman V Superman, but soon realized that Wonder Woman would play an important role in the superhero movie. Furthermore, the magazine also revealed her age, which is 5,000 years old.

It also seems that Wonder Woman will have a better grasp of the events in the movie more than Batman and Superman because she was once tasked with defending the world until she retired. Gadot revealed:

Lastly, executive producer Deborah Snyder talked about Wonder Woman’s sexuality as a feminist icon. Wonder Woman will be the first female to head her own film in the modern era of superhero movies. Considering that the Wonder Woman movie is set during WWI, we’re likely to see the role of women throughout the years. Deborah Snyder explained:

“Because she’s seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight. They have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don’t want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty.”

“Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon. Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back. The way we have approached it, especially in the standalone movie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story - and it is a period piece - see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humor in that now. It is so unbelievable you can’t even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it.”

It seems that the first part of Batman V Superman will feature the two iconic superheroes fighting each other, while the second half would feature Wonder Woman uniting Batman and Superman against a common villain before the Dawn of Justice. But overall, it’s going to be really fun to see DC’s Trinity come together on the big screen.
