[SPOILERS for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice ahead.]

-

Following the theatrical release of director Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice this past weekend, fans of the characters that make up the DC Extended Universe are likely looking forward with great anticipation to future stand-alone titles in the franchise. Ahead of the release of films such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman, some of the parties involved have openly discussed the ever burgeoning DCEU on the behalf of distributor Warner Bros. Pictures, including Gal Gadot, the performer behind Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, as well as Aquaman director James Wan.

However, Gadot and Wan aren’t the only talents with their hands in the DCEU pot, as there are countless other films slated for release over the course of the next four years. On of those superhero films is Cyborg and Snyder has now spoken a bit more about setting up Victor Stone/Cyborg for his upcoming roles in both Justice League Part One and his own solo movie.

As reported by EW, and undoubtedly already familiar to those who saw Dawn of Justice in theaters already, there is a specific scene in Snyder’s new film wherein Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) hacks into the personal computer database of Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) in order to retrieve information pertaining to the formerly mentioned billionaire antagonist’s stored data on certain “meta-humans,” much like Superman (Henry Cavill). The film later features several surveillance videos and archival records that reveal characters like The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Wonder Woman herself. Alongside all of that, viewers are granted their first glimpse at Cyborg (Ray Fisher) featured in the video diaries of his father, Dr. Silas Stone (Joe Morton), of S.T.A.R. Labs.

As fans of the original comic book character no doubt already know, Cyborg, born Victor Stone, was granted his powers after a debilitating football accident resulted in the loss of most of his organic limbs, and when one Mother Box of certain shapeshifting and magical alien origin subsequently latches itself onto its willing host. Snyder claims that the scene in question in Batman V Superman wherein Victor’s father brings the device to his son is the, “the first glimpse of the Mother Box,” within the larger DCEU. In further testament to what Snyder labels a, “an agonizing birth,” the director was also quick to cite his intention for developing Cyborg as a mind-melding, reality-altering “technopath” as suggested by the film’s explicit use of the Mother Box. Regarding where viewers can expect to see Cyborg go next, Snyder stated:

How well Snyder’s plans for the well known DC original character will ultimately turn out on the big screen remains to be seen, especially considering the relatively untested status of Fisher as a leading man. It will likewise be interesting to see who ultimately takes on the Cyborg solo film, as there are currently no writers nor director(s) attached to the project (at the time of writing this). That being said, here’s to hoping that the first teasing glimpse offered in Batman V Superman results in a truly inspired version of Cyborg in the DCEU hereon forward.

“I really wanted to show Cyborg’s birth because I feel like he plays such a strong part coming up, and I really wanted to give a sense of him.  I really want [the audience] to know how far he’s come.”

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is now playing in U.S. theaters. Suicide Squad will arrive on August 5, 2016, followed by Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 16, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps. on June 19, 2020.
