The first trailer for the next installment in DICE’s Battlefield video game franchise is currently in the works, which means a full reveal just might be around the corner. DICE has been alternating annually between releasing mainline Battlefield titles and Star Wars: Battlefront. Last year, Star Wars: Battlefront II released, and now, they’ve turned all their attention towards developing the next installment in their acclaimed shooter series, which was most recently given a quasi-reboot with WWI-centered Battlefield 1.

Electronic Arts (EA) announced last year that the next installment in the Battlefield series will hit store shelves in 2018, presumably in October as is customary with DICE games. While details are still being kept under wraps at this stage, various rumors seem to indicate that the game will be set during WWII - thus bringing the franchise back to its roots just as Activision recently did with their Call of Duty series - or that it will be the long-awaited Battlefield: Bad Company 3. Either way, fans shouldn’t have to wait much longer to find out.

EA DICE’s senior video & media director Randy Evans announced on Twitter that the untitled Battlefield 2018 trailer is currently in the works, which means the reveal will come within the next few weeks. Take a look:

In addition to Bad Company 3, fans are hoping that the next Battlefield game will be built on a new game engine. Frostbite 3 made its debut with Battlefield 4 in 2013 and has been used in virtually every one of EA’s major titles, including non-shooter series such as FIFA and Need for Speed. After several years and multiple upgrades in console and PC gaming hardware, Frostbite 3 is starting to show its age, and some issues - legacy issues such as wall-jumping - is present in every one of their games. Perhaps now is the time to debut Frostbite 4. After all, there were only two to three-year gaps between Frostbite 1 and 2, and then between 2 and 3, yet it’s been five years since Frostbite 3 was revealed.

Since the Battlefield 2018 reveal trailer is being worked on right now, it seems likely that DICE will be unveiling the game at GDC 2018 in the mid-March. The developer has made multiple Battlefield announcements at the industry conference in the past, and the timing of the trailer reveal fits. Of course, EA may be saving their full reveal of the game (read: gameplay) until E3 2018, which is where they plan on making the game available to the public to test out.
