BATTLETECH will soon be receiving new DLC, as Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes announced at PDXCON 2019 that the Heavy Metal expansion will launch on November 21, 2019. BATTLETECH shares the same setting as the BattleTech tabletop game, which went on to spawn its own media franchise, including video games including MechWarrior Online and the upcoming MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries.

The latest BATTLETECH video game offers a turn-based strategy experience and was partly funded by a Kickstarter campaign that brought in over $2.7 million with fans making it clear they wanted to see some of the high tier stretch goals make their way into the game, including the addition of voice acting, a customizable home base, and PvP multiplayer. BATTLETECH was one of Screen Rant’s most anticipated games of 2018 and it scored well with critics upon release.

The next expansion for BATTLETECH was revealed at PDXCON 2019 on the same stage that Crusader Kings III was announced. The Heavy Metal expansion will add eight new ‘Mechs to the game, seven of which are from the original BattleTech tabletop game and one which uses an original design. We’ll find out which very soon so stay tuned! The Heavy Metal expansion will be available as part of the Season Pass to those who purchased and will be sold for a suggested retail price of $19.99. A cinematic trailer for the game is now available on Paradox Interactive’s YouTube channel.

The eight new ‘Mechs include a light machine called the Flea, which has incredible speed and can move a great distance across the map, and the 100-ton Annihilator, which packs a lot of firepower within its frame. The new ‘Mechs will be accompanied by eight new weapon systems, including the COIL Beam, which fires a ray that is made stronger depending on how far the ‘Mech moved before taking the shot. The Heavy Metal expansion is also adding a Flashpoint mini-campaign that pits the player against two characters from the BattleTech series in what is promising to be some of the most challenging battles in the game so far. There will also be a free content update in an upcoming patch for the game that will be available on the same day as the Heavy Metal expansion. The update will add another two ‘Mechs and official mod support for the game.

The new content in the Heavy Metal expansion for BATTLETECH was demoed at PDXCON and we had a chance to try it out, which we can talk about later this week once the coverage embargo lifts. We also had a chance to try out the demo for Surviving the Aftermath at PDXCON, which was shown to the public for the first time at the event.
